The diffuser works fine, as you would expect from a sturdy piece of plastic.The lens cleaning kit is useless--the bulb blower does not produce a perceptible air flow.the charger kit is very cheaply made and I am not sure it functions: the charge indicator stayed on for 30 hours; I ended up using another charger to charge the batteries from this kit.

ALZO Porta Flash Speedlight Softbox - Achieve studio quality images with your Portable Flash Speedlight - May require Shoe Mount Adaptor for NIKON SB-900* - by alzodigital.com Review

I got this softbox about a week ago and am satisfied with the light quality it puts out but I have some concerns with the construction. First, you DO need the hotshoe adapter for the SB-900. Based on someone else's comment, I ordered one. However, I don't think I'll be using my 900 with this box b/c it barely fits through the opening in the metal ring.I know my 900 would be scratched in no time. And the diffuser dome for the 900 can only be put on after the flash has been inserted which means that if you want to switch it up, you'd have to take the front cover off the softbox. If a 285 can fit through the opening, then it might go in all the way in - I don't have one so I can't test it. My sb-16 does barely fit (better than the 900) but I can't put in with the diffuser either.Luckily I have an 800 that fits into the hole no problem, even with the dome on. But this brings me to my second concern. The metal ring is not sealed in anyway against the material of the softbox and, due to the play between the softbox and ring, there is definitely light leak. If your softbox is always behind your camera, then there is no problem, but if you put it to the side and in front of the camera, you might get some light flare. When using studio softboxes, we were always ultra careful to make sure the it was sealed completely. I also find that my sb-800 doesn't go all the way into the hole b/c of one of the screws on the metal L bracket. The flash goes forward so far and then butts up against the screw leaving it partially outside which allows for further light leak from my sb-800. Forget using a Metz CT flash.
My last issue is that what holds the softbox to the bracket is the tension between the flexible 'cords' that give the box shape (I'm not sure what they are made up b/c they covered by material) and the metal ring sliding under the cords. I am hoping that there isn't a lot of friction between the metal and the material holding the cords or else I can see the metal ring cutting through the material. I would guess that the target audience for this box would be wedding photographers who are always on the move. I have no doubt that the box will come off the metal ring if it being dragged around a wedding.
I live overseas and therefore cannot return the box for a refund - I probably would if I could. I am going to look a little more closely at the competitors to see if they have the same construction or have a different method.
I should probably give it 2 stars but I think it will give good light as long as you're not looking to use it for moving around at a wedding or as a paparazzi type situation.

EDIT:
I just went to Lastolite's sight and watched their video on their EzyBox Hotshoe softbox.IT IS THE SAME AS THIS BOX - but way more expensive. Ok, they include one more diffusion layer. I suspect the other ones are the same as well. If you're going to buy one, it might as well be the less expensive one.

Opteka Deluxe Flash Stand for Canon EOS, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, & Sigma External Flash Units Review

I have real trouble getting my Canon 580EXII into this, as there is a rounded back on the flash foot, but no biggy as I bought this for my 420EX.

Unfortunately the 420EX requires considerable force to fit it into the foot, so I end up just balancing the flash in the foot without properly inserting it. I'll file down the base of the foot at some point, and it should work ok.

2 stars, as it 'sort of' works.

While the cord worked fine on my Nikon D80, it wouldn't come out of the shoe.I had to break the thing and pull it out of the shoe with a pair of pliers.I managed to get it out after about 20 minutes.It damaged my camera, although it seems to be only cosmetic and the shoe still works.Stay away from this thing.

I can nnot turn my camera side ways in the bracket with the battery grip on my XTI. That is a major let down. I kinda dig the bracket, but seems to be suited for smaller cameras, i would assume if you put a 5D in this it would be too small as well.

Precision Design Quick Flip Rotating FB350 Flash Bracket for Digital SLR Cameras & Speedlight Flashes Review

PRO: This is clearly a knock-off of the Stroboframe 350 at about half the price.

PRO: I cradle the lens with my left hand and use my right hand to grip the camera and trip the shutter.With the handle mounted on the left, you can still use that "hold" for horizontal framing without any interference from the bracket.

CON: With the handle mounted on the right, you cannot use that "hold" for horizontal framing because there is not enough room between the handle and the camera body to fit your hand.

CON: Left handle mount requires a 90 degree clockwise rotation for vertical framing.This moves your left hand to the top and your right hand to the bottom, creating an awkward, unstable grip.

CON: Although not possible for the reasons mentioned above, a right handle mount would be the preferred mounting method for vertical shots if there was more room between the handle and the camera because most of us prefer our shutter hand on top when framing verically. This would also benefit those who have a 'vertical' shutter release on the bottom right of the camera body.

BOTTOM LINE: Good price and good for horizontal framing.But not good enough for me so this bracket will be going back.Now I guess I have to get a Custom bracket (where the camera swivels not the flash) and pay big bucks!

Coco Ring Flash Adapter for Nikon SB-900 Flash with D300, D200, D70, D80, D50, D40, D40x, D60, & D90 Digital SLR Camera's Review

So what is the ring flash?

The coco ring flash is an adapter you slide onto your flashgun. It is built specifically to fit on the flashgun mounted on the camera with whatever lens you have on the camera sticking through the hole in the ring flash. Even my biggest lens, the Nikkor 17-55mm f2.8 (77mm diameter) easily fits in the adapter with room to spare. With the flash and adapter mounted on your camera, it grows a bit in size but is still manageable and steady. Just be warned that you will get a lot of 'what is that thing'-questions.

Overall I like it. It is a relatively inexpensive piece of lighting gear that produces results no 'bare' flash can get you. It especially shines for in-your-face portrait photography and flower macro shots.

Be warned that the fit is a bit loose, but with some additional Velcro tape (that is there for my portable soft box) it feels a lot more secure. The ring flash is clearly cheaply produced, but it is very competitively priced compared to its more expensive cousins, the Orbis and Ray Flash. Despite the relatively cheap price tag, the ring flash is fairly sturdy and has now withstood several months of shooting in various locations.
