Nikon SB-600 TTL AF Shoe Mount Speedlight USA Warranty - Deluxe Outfit with 4 NiMH Batteries, Charger, Flashpoint Flash Diffuser, Flashpoint Quick Flip Flash Bracket & Off-Camera TTL2 3' Coiled Flash Cord for Nikon Review

Nikon SB-600 TTL AF Shoe Mount Speedlight USA Warranty - Deluxe Outfit with 4 NiMH Batteries, Charger, Flashpoint Flash Diffuser, Flashpoint Quick Flip Flash Bracket & Off-Camera TTL2 3' Coiled Flash Cord for NikonI had never purchased a flash before and did a lot of research on them before purchasing this item. I am so glad I did. I am a wedding photographer but have always done outside wedding until recently. I have never been a big fan of flashes but this one does an excellent job. It has enough settings to give you flexibility but is simple and easy enough to use so if you are like me and don't use one every shoot you can still work it and capture great pictures. I would definitely buy this bundle as well. I have used everything that came with it and have been very grateful I did. The only thing I would say is to make sure you read your manual so you know how to set it.

The only negative thing I would say about this is the time it takes to process each picture. It is difficult to use multi-shot with this flash so capturing moments such as a garter toss etc. can be a challenge.

All in all this is a wonderful piece of equipment and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to purchase there first flash.

So far so good. It came in a timely manor and because it came with the batteries and charger, I was able to plug it in to charge and used it the next day. I can really tell a difference with this flash compared to the camera's built in flash on my Nikon D40X. I took a picture in a dark room with just a little sunlight coming through, and the photo came out looking like I took it in the perfect lighted conditions.

The height of the DZBIS-112iTTL helps to greatly reduce or eliminate red-eye and its flash head bounces and swivels for professional-looking portraits. Great looking flash pictures aren't just about how powerful or expensive the flash is, it's about the quality and texture of the light (soft and diffuse versus direct and harsh). The Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce is a compact diffusion dome that easily attaches to your flash to create a beautifully diffused lighting effect which results in soft wrap-around lighting on the subject and provides a softer and less noticeable shadow behind the subject. The Omni-Bounce is very easy to use and simply slips onto the head of your flash with a snug, custom fit - without requiring any complicated velcro or adhesive attachments or any modification that might mar the appearance of your flash. Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce for the Nikon SB-400 Flash Review

Sto-Fen Omni-Bounce for the Nikon SB-400 FlashI own an SB400 flash and looked at this diffuser attachment. First, like the diffusion adapter that comes with the SB800, it's a bit bulky and takes excess space. Secondly, it costs. Thirdly, you can lose it.

Much easier way to bounce and diffuse an SB400: tape a white business card to the top of the flash so it hangs off the front. Bend the card at the middle upward to a 45 degree angle. Tilt the flash tube upward 90 degrees so it dumps the light into this mini white card. Shoot the photo.

You can leave the card on the flash, fold it up and stick the whole thing in the SB400's cute little carrying case. Zero cost. Replace it when it wears out.

By the way, the SB400 in a room with an 8-10' white ceiling works really well by simply rotating the flash tube up 90 degrees. By design, the exact amount of light emits from the edge of the SB400 flash when it's pointed upward. This gives a perfect amount of fill light and the very important eye highlight. You really only need the diffuser or this whitecard trick if the ceiling is so high the flash runs out of gas. The "before and after" photos shown here would look exactly the same if you simply point the flash tube toward the ceiling.

I also found that pointing it up at less than 90 degrees allows too much light to go forward and overexposes the upper half of the frame. If I use the tilting flash at all, it's always up the full 90 degrees.

The Omni-Bounce is easy to use and goes onto and off of your flash in seconds with custom fitting, except UNI, and No Velcro. Designed for years of service with out the bulk of some other Diffusers, it is small enough to fit easily into your gadget bag or pocket.

Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control for Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D80 & D90 Digital SLR Cameras Review

Nikon ML-L3 Wireless Remote Control for Nikon D40, D40x, D60, D80 & D90 Digital SLR CamerasIt's no surprise that when you stand in front of the camera and push the
button, the remote triggers the shutter. There does seem to be some
confusion in reviews, both here and elsewhere, as to the remote's ability
to focus the lens before triggering the shutter.

This remote is capable of focusing the lens before triggering the shutter.
However, it will not focus the lens if the photographer has already
pushed the shutter release button on the camera half way down to focus
the image or if you are shooting in Manual mode and have AF-C set as
the Autofocus mode.

This means that if you are composing a photograph and push the shutter
button half way down to focus the image and you then stand in front of
the camera and push the remote button, the image will not focus
because you've already pushed the camera shutter release button half
way down to focus. To get the image to focus while you are standing in
front of the camera, compose the shot but do not push the camera's
shutter release button half way down, get in front of the camera and
then push the button.

Phoenix SmartFlash 99N for Nikon i-TTL Digital SLR Cameras Review

Phoenix SmartFlash 99N for Nikon i-TTL Digital SLR CamerasI bought this flash with the hopes that I could get a good, reliable flash without having to spend more on the Nikon Speedlight. While the flash itself did all that it promised, once I mounted it on the camera it was unreliable at best.It was almost as if the contacts for the hotshoe did not line up.My on-camera flash kept responding, but not the Phoenix.Once in a while I could finesse it into position long enough to get one or two shots, which turned out very nice, but then it would stop communicating with the camera again. After doing some more on-line research it seems that this is true for other "off-brand" flashes that claim to be compatible with the Nikon. In the end I returned the Phoenix and am awaiting the Nikon Speedlight.I guess this is one of those situations where you just have to spend the money to get what you really want.

Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Review

Nikon SB-600 Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasThis is the first time I have ever purchased a dedicated flash. I have used the Superb Vivitar 283 and 285 strobes for years with no complaints. However, after buying the Nikon D70, I felt the need for a TTL flash. The camera's built-in pop-up flash works OK, but I wanted something to get more control of.
The SB600 does 95% of what the more expensive SB-800 does for half the price:

Bounce Flash: Not only can you move the head vertically, you can rotate it 270 degrees to get some sweet sidelit effects. The iTTL makes bounce flash simple and accurate. When you manually zoom the lens, the SB 600 zooms the flash head to automatically match your focal length-and very quietly too.

Power: No problem here. It can easily light an average room. 4 AA batteries give plenty of juice, and the '600 powers itself down to energy saver mode. More important, it powers back up quickly when you're ready to shoot.

Goodies: You can manually dial the flash power down to 1/64 full output, and everything in between. This is perfect for fill flash. It comes with a built in diffusor for ultra wide angle settings. Nikon thoughtfully includes a little stand with tripod socket in case you want to use it off camera. The really nice part is that the SB 600 can be triggered remotely by the D70 or D2H's on camera flash! This gives you a "studio in a bag" using one flash and a Nikon DSLR. Very cool.

Ergonomics: Nikon's D70 set new standards in ergonomics, and the SB-600 matches that. The latch for the bounce head has a handy large rubber button to unlock it. All buttons are soft touch, backlit, and very responsive. The TTL display is lit as well. There is a smooth locking device to secure it on the hotshoe.

Instructions: Nikon includes a cool, full color book showing what you can do with the Sb-600 and 800. Each lighting setup has a corresponding page number for the 600 or 800 manual to tell you how to do it. The book is very helpful and very well printed. These are the kind of extras Nikon users have come to respect. I wish all digital cameras were as well documented as Nikon!

Summary: for the price, you can't buy a better flash for the D70.While less expensive than the SB-800, the SB-600 is lighter and recycles faster. This is more than worth the money, and a perfect mate for your D70.

ADDENDUM. Three years on this is still a great strobe for any Nikon DLSR made. I recently used it to demonstrate the off-camera remote control function built into most better Nikon DLSRs. The class I was teaching were amazed and the Canon shooters were left wanting. Check out the spontaneous group portrait I made of some students with this thing. Everyone wanted a copy!
